If you have chosen Sorrento as your holiday place, that was a great deal!
Not only for the view of the coast, the sea and the citrus fields that already make your soul feel alive, but also because this is a good base to start some interesting tours.
There are many important and historical places in Campania: from Sorrento you can easily get to Positano, Praiano and Amalfi with their alleys and famous beaches.
Less than one hour drive from here, going towards Naples, you meet Pompeii and its ancient ruins.
Leaving Sorrento by car, direction Naples, you can admire different places along the road that leads to Pompeii.
The whole coast, here, is worth the visit so do not have problems in trying try a few stops.
The first can be done almost immediately, in Vico Equense: if you have time, here you can visit the church of the Santissima Annunziata which, besides being a very beautiful baroque monument, stands on a rock spur from which you can admire the panorama of the entire gulf; worth to see also the Giusso Castle and the Museum of Sacred Art with collections of objects and coral jewelry.
Continuing north, you will first meet the Regional Park of Monti Lattari and immediately after that Castellammare di Stabia: here you can visit the beautiful noble palaces, the Quisisana palace, the Medieval Castle and the Roman Villas at the municipal archaeological excavations.
From Castellammare then, in just 20 minutes, you will arrive at your destination.
Pompeii is mostly famous for its archaeological excavations that brought to the surface a whole ancient town, destroyed by Mt Vesuvius’ ash eruption during the Roman age.
But the modern town has much more to be admired: architectures and historical monuments.
Its churches are famous in Southern Italy, like the Shrine of the Virgin of Pompeii: rich decorations, bright and baroque, with a great façade and frescoes and stuccos inside reminding of its building in the 19th century.
Of course, though, the excavations are the main place of interest.
From 1748 on, this archaeological site keeps giving strong emotions and surprises.
Every single part of soil, every stone floor could hide a treasure.
Try to visit as many monuments as possible, among the houses of old Pompeii, the Villas, the Roman Forum, the theaters and the Baths.
Open every day from 9 am to 5 pm (in winter) and from 9 am to 7:30 pm (from April to October)
Closed on New Year’s Day, 1st May and Christmas Day.
To avoid the line at the entrance, you can buy tickets online.
If you have no car but you still want to visit Pompeii do not be worried.
There are some good connections between Sorrento and the archaeological town: we suggest the experience of the Circumvesuviana train, leaving every 20 minutes or so, otherwise try the bus trip with EAV Lines buses.
Our reception can arrange private transfers, don’t hesitate to ask!
Can a small town of 16.400 inhabitants become one of the capitals of world tourism? Yes, of course! Sorrento proves it.
Set on top of a green, panoramic promontory, rivers and creeks all around (the ancient name Syrrenton means: confluence of rivers) it is the favorite place for many travelers.
Foreigners already loved it back in ancient ages, it was the favorite holiday place for the rich Romans, but only in the 18th century Sorrento became a tourist goal for Americans, French. English, Germans and later on also for Asians and Russians.
So small on the map, so close to the “giant” Naples, Sorrento can be reached by many different means.
If you are planning your holiday here, follow our useful advice.
To get to Sorrento from abroad, one of the recommended means is certainly airplane. The international airport of Naples-Capodichino is located at 50 km from the town and is very well served by a rapid shuttle service of the Curreri bus line.
It takes less than one hour to get from the airport of Naples to the centre of Sorrento and, beyond the public transport.
Much easier is to rent a car with driver. We can help with this, just contact us and we will arrange a private transfer for you.
To get to Sorrento by train, you must arrive at Naples’ train station, first, and specifically at the Centrale Piazza Garibaldi station.
From there, through an underpass, reach the local train Circumvesuviana.
The tickets for these small trains are cheap, the rides frequent (every 20 or 30 minutes) and the trip goes through some of the most beautiful views you can ever imagine.
Soon you will get to the centre of Sorrento and ready for your tour.
If you like to drive your car, you will easily get to Sorrento by travelling on Highway A3 from Naples, exit Castellammare di Stabia and follow the directions to Penisola Sorrentina.
Drive along State Street 145 and follow the directions to Sorrento or any other town of the Peninsula (Meta, Sant’Agnello, Vico Equense…).
Finally the Hotel Central opens its restaurant doors to the outside clients.
Whether you are our hotel guest or not, come and taste the cuisine of the AGO restaurant: welcoming, impeccably cared for, with a convenient location and an enchanting panoramic terrace.
After your meal, enjoy the panoramic Terrace of Restaurant AGO in Sorrento. Unique panorama at lunch and fantastic sunset at dinner!

15% off from all reservations of a room with breakfast at the Hotel Central! A real deal for you next holiday in Sorrento!
Thanks Grace for your lovely review about our Hotel Cristina:
A lovely stay in Sorrento at Hotel Cristina (English version at the bottom of the page).
Looking forward to have you again as our guest!
We are pleased to share with you the most beautiful reviews received over the past months.
For this reason we have compiled the ranking of the best reviews: our pride and the reason to do our best to make our guests’ stay the most pleasant as possible.
Our tour scheduled 3 nights here and it was an ideal location for Capri and Amalfi Coast adventures. This property is one of several family-owned hotels and this one is pretty much right in the center of town … so much so that you become a “neighbor” witnessing the folks, hanging out their laundry and hosting family events. This is what the real people do; it is not a sanitized version of a fancy uppity hotel with fancy visitors. Loved it!
The dinner we had here was off-the-charts excellent (one of our favorites in all of Italy) and it was not a banquet-style meal. Everything was excellent, well prepared (the chef takes obvious pride) and … how many circles can I give the food? Five is not enough.
The character and charm exceeded our expectations. This truly was a converted grand home and we loved the character that still remained in the rooms. Antique furnishings, nice dark wood accents, the French-door to the small balcony, even the slightly dysfunctional shower all said “this is old Italy, Sorrento style.” We managed with the inconveniences and chalked them up to contributions to very unique experiences.
Street noise can be an issue and ear plugs always make those situations better (we prefer the silicone version to completely block noise). We never travel without them!
During our stay here, we found the staff exceedingly attentive in every respect (even 3 am departures); someone always greeted us and went out of their ways to make us comfortable. As a 3 am departure person, the coffee and pastries were just what the doctor ordered.
As a highlight (for us), our room overlooked a lovely private courtyard where grandma and grandson had some very special moments. Sorry to be a voyeur, but I can only say their fun and games made Sorrento so personal and intimate; the people were “real” and the experience to touch their lives will be some of our favorite memories during our entire time in Italy.
The breakfast offerings were so nice. The lobby was small but intimate. The urban setting made it convenient to do what-ever (including putting together an in-room early dinner).
As an aside, the shower will wash the floor regardless of how carefully one tried to secure the shower curtain. Towels mop things up well. It just goes with the quirkiness of the area and experience. This is the stuff stories are made from so, just adapt and appreciate and experience real Italy.

The hotel property was very nice and in a great location, but best of all the EXCELLENT service provided by all the hotel personnel, extremely helpful and kind!! I also left in my room accidentally my camera and the hotel called me to let me know so I was able to go back to the hotel and get it. also, I recommend the food at their restaurant from their Chef. Hope to go back to Hotel central sometime soon!

I stayed here for 3 night as part of a tour group. The hotel was great. Great rooms with a refrigerator. We had a room with a view of the pool deck and Mt Vesuvius. We never went to the pool but others said they enjoyed it. The breakfast was decent, the dinner was just eh. As for the walk to the center down the street… it takes 10-15 minutes down a busy street with a very narrow sidewalk. I guess if you live or are from NYC this is not a big deal because this was never a concern for me. Unless you really do not like walking or have some physical ailments, the walk is fine.

Stayed two nights as part of a tour group. We had been in Italy for a week & had trouble sleeping because PRIOR beds were VERY hard, as well as pillows. (Felt like plywood covered by a sheet!) The beds & pillows at Hotel Central were much more comfortable!
The staff was very friendly, as well. Good food, too.
We would stay at this hotel again!

Great buffet breakfast, cool a/c in room, comfy bed.
Very nice rooftop patio with fantastic view.
A ten minute walk from the main square, but easy on the eyes, with a cool drink in one’ hand:)
Staff helpful, very clean. A room on the street side is fine, but a sea view room would be preferable.

Beautiful place to visit.
Hotel- clean. Staff- very helpful and attentive. Food- average we were half board and some nights food were average and others it was good. I suppose it depended on what you ordered.
Used shuttled bus quite a bit but also walked into town and back a few times. Good if you are fit and able.Booked trips through Thomson as well as the hotel.
Highly recommend Carpi. Wish we had more time to see more places.
100% loved Italy. People are lovely, weather was nice and sights fantastic.

Think its probably all been said about this amazing hotel. My husband and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary here in July, we try to celebrate this occasion in a different country/location each year. Hotel Christina and Sorrento has been one of the best. Hotel, location, food & staff are just wonderful, we sat outside for our meals & had the most wonderful view across the Bay of Naples.
Please take the time to explore saint Angello its a lovely town with access to the Lido without going into Sorrento.
We caught the excellent shuttle bus a few times but walked into Sorrento most of the time (10 minute walk).

My second time here with a group and still impressed. Wonderful straff, good food and easy access to Sorrento thanks to their shuttlebus service. I highly recommend them. From here you can reach Pompeii, Amalfi and Capri for your day trips.

My husband and I have just returned from a four night break. Prior to arriving at the hotel I had contacted them by email regarding methods of transfer from Naples airport. They provided very detailed information which enabled us to get to Hotel Cristina easily. We chose to take the bus direct from the airport for 10€ each. DO NOT CONSIDER HIRING A CAR – the drivers are completely bonkers.
We arrived just after 9pm, tired and hungry. We had missed the last entry to the restaurant but the lovely receptionist rang through to the restaurant and arranged with Francesco for us to go there immediately.
We stayed in room 504, on the same level as the restaurant, with amazing views of the bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. The room was very clean and had a large balcony.
The hotel is situated up a steep hill (which is why the views are to die for). It took approx 15 minutes to walk into the centre of Sorrento. It wasn’t a particularly pleasant walk due to the traffic and mad drivers. However, the hotel does run a shuttle bus service throughout the day and into the evening which worked well.
The hotel served as a great base to visit Versuvius, Herculaneum, Amalfi and Capri. We visited all these attractions by using public transport (not organised trips).
The staff in the hotel were amazing. They knew which room number we were in and were always happy to help and advise.
Thank you Hotel Cristina for a memorable holiday.
